Stand in the gap
At some point in time I will talk about the subject of bullying in the Christian community, but for now (and there is a tie in) I will chat on standing in the gap. There are really two thoughts processes that need to be addressed, but not enough time nor space. Let me pose the questions for your consideration. Will you stand in the gap? What is God asking you to do while in the gap. Let me preface this by saying that if God leads you to stand in the gap, it is not only a lonely place, but it will take courage. There is not a crowd of gap standers waiting for the call. In many instances, there is a remnant of believers, interceding on behalf of His church, thinking they want to be used by God and then the true test comes. I concluded today that my modern day translation for standing in the gap equates to recognizing the current state and needing to move an organization, group of people, body of believers into the future state. Some of you may believe that as believers, we would of course be willing to journey into that future state, because in our hearts we know it is not only what God wants, but what we need. Take it from someone who has made it an art and mission to study people - most people really don't want to make the move. They talk a good game, but are like the Children of Isreal grumbling in the wilderness, longing for the past, for the days of slavery. Even with the promise of a land flowing with milk and honey, some would prefer the current state, slavery,to the future state, freedom because the future requires standing on the promises, exercising of faith and putting our money where our mouths are, so to speak. The current state is at least the devil we know. The future state is the unknown and highlights our fears and lack of trust. So as God beckons you to stand in the gap, are you sitting on the sidelines rather than standing up, stepping out and declaring before God I will be the bridge for your people and lead the way to the future? Or will you sit, weigh the pros and cons and allow the opportunity and calling to pass you by? I am feeling very strongly about this, not because I jump up every time God shows me the bridge I am called to provide, but because I see now the times I missed out on fulfilling my destiny by sitting on the sidelines, paralyzed with fear and God used someone else because I couldn't take the chance and trust Him. Well it's time for us to stand in the gap and make the old ways new and forge the path for those who are standing shoulder to shoulder with us, just waiting for someone to show them the path forward.
